As well as the many daily and weekly events happening at Southport, one of the top 55 communities in Massachusetts, there is also plenty going on in the surrounding area. Make the most of the sunshine and warmer weather in June and start marking your calendars with some of these great Cape Cod events.
Cape Cod Baseball League Opening Day. On June 14, the boys of summer will be hitting the fields once again for a summer of baseball. Games are free, although donations are happily accepted, and the first ball gets thrown out at 6 p.m. in 10 towns across the Cape. Pick a town and a team and enjoy your summer.
Arts Alive Festival. From June 16-18, on the Falmouth Library Lawn, the arts in all their many splendored forms will be celebrated. Admission is free and events include a Town Dance on Friday, a Rock Fest on Saturday, as well as dance and theater performances, exhibits and sales by artists and crafters, and plenty of food and fun for all ages.
Strawberry Festival. Nothing says summer like the sweet taste of ripe strawberries. It’s time once again for the Strawberry Festival held June 17 at St. Barnabus Church in Falmouth. The event is free to enter, but have some cash ready for the delicious strawberries, lobster rolls, barbecued chicken, and hot dogs. There will also be arts and crafts vendors, plants for sale, and activities to keep young kids entertained.
Father’s Day Car Show. Each year on Father’s Day, Main Street in Hyannis is lined with an array of antique and collectible awe-inspiring autos. This free event takes place June 18 this year, but if you’re not a car buff, there are still plenty of reasons to go, including live music at the bandstand, plenty of great food, an arts and crafts fair, and lots of fun throughout downtown and the harbor area.
SandwichFest. On June 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., make your way to Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod, for a chance to taste and determine which restaurant has the best sandwich in town. For just $20, you get a sandwich sampling. But even if you’re watching your carbs, this entertaining street festival includes a parade, live music, and even a dog costume competition, along with plenty of other fun and festivities.
