Suthport at Cape Cod is one of the top 55 communities in Massachusetts. One of the reasons it is such a popular community is its fantastic location. Both within the community and in the surrounding towns, there is always something interesting and fun happening. If you’re already living at Southport or are thinking of purchasing one of the last seven new homes available, here’s a list of some of the many festivals and events taking place in August.
Carousel of Light Special Events
There’s something magical about a carousel: the lights, the music, the nostalgia, the laughter. On multiple dates throughout August, you can take a twirl on Falmouth’s popular Carousel of Light. This hand-carved work of art draws on the area’s nautical background for its theme and includes 20 wooden horses and two wheelchair-accessible chariots, including one appropriately named Bubbles, thanks to the bubbles it blows. You can find this marvellous carousel at Mullen-Hall Elementary School, 130 Katharine Lee Bates Road, Falmouth.
Mashpee Summer Arts & Crafts Festival
Although the dates still haven’t been finalized, this Mashpee Public Library fundraiser always takes place in August at the Public Library Commons on Steeple Street. This all-American festival showcases the best American-made arts and crafts from 75 juried participants. You’ll be blown away by the beautiful fine jewelry, original artwork, blown glass, pottery, photography, fiber arts, hand-crafted furniture, pet items, and more that are available to admire and purchase. As if that weren’t enough, there are also craft demonstrations, live music, and plenty of delicious food sampling.
Pops by the Sea – Hyannis
Listening to a variety of traditional and popular songs in a beautiful outdoor setting is a favorite summer activity. On August 13, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Hyannis Town Green on Main Street, the renowned Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra will be performing. Conductor Keith Lockhart is joined each year by a celebrity conductor to add to the excitement and fun of this family friendly event. Admission is $25 and up, depending on location.
Helping out local charities is one of the many things that appeals to residents of Southport, one of the top 55 communities in Massachusetts. The Falmouth Walk, which takes place August 19 at 10 a.m., is a 3.2-mile walk that starts at Town Hall, passes along Surf Drive, goes along the Harbour and back along Main Street. If the distance is a challenge for you, there’s also a 1.5-mile shortcut available. Watching is free, but there’s an entry fee for participants. The event is capped off with a picnic, raffle and auction, and all profits go to local Falmouth charities.
These are just a few of the events taking place on Cape Cod this summer. Take advantage of this dwindling chance to own one of the last seven brand new homes available at Southport, and you could soon be enjoying these and many other great events throughout the year.
