Things To Do in the Winter on Cape Cod

It’s that time of year. The festivities are over. You’ve packed up the decorations, had your last glass of eggnog, you’ve sung your last carol, and now you’re left wondering – how wil we pass the time until Spring!? Fortunately, there’s no shortage of events going on near Southport on Cape Cod that are sure to keep you entertained. From special events, to ongoing activities, not to mention the onsite activities happening right here at Southport, you and your friends and neighbors will find there is no shortage of things to do this winter.

If you’re already feeling the winter chill, warm your body and soul with the Third Annual Cape Cod Awesome Chili Challenge. This delicious competition serves up LOTS of chili, as well as free food from Estia, free ice cream from Emack and Bolio’s if things get too hot, plus margaritas, beer, raffles, and prizes. You can also warm up by dancing to some of the live music by local favorites. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door and money that is raised will help support the Cape Cod Boys & Girls Club and the Falmouth Service Center. So make plans to be at New Seabury Country Club in Mashpee at noon on January 27 for an awesomely good time!

Another increasingly popular year-round pastime is the wine and paint party. Enjoy some fine wine while attempting to make some fine art! Artfully Yours hosts events at local establishments that you and your friends can sign up for, or they will come to you for your private birthday party, team-building event, or charity fundraiser. You provide the vino and they provide the canvas, the paint, and the instructor to help you live, laugh, and paint. Contact them direct to learn more about upcoming events or to schedule your own.

Escape Rooms are another craze that has become hugely popular, and while the name sounds a bit foreboding, they are super fun and something totally unique to do with a group of friends. Players are “locked” in a room and given 60 minutes to complete a mission by solving a series of riddles and connecting the clues to solve the mystery. This is best as a team event, as you work together to unlock the puzzle and escape the mystery room. There are a variety of themes from which to choose and tickets are $30 per person. Check out Riddle at Mashpee Commons for your own fun adventure.

Have you been bowling recently? If it’s been a while, it’s time to lace up your bowling shoes and have some major fun at The Lanes Bowl and Bistro. Bowling is always a good time, no matter your skill level – laugh at yourself, and high-five your friends – plus, the sophisticated menu at The Lanes is far superior to the nachos and hot dogs you recall from your grandson’s 7th birthday party!

Finally, for a bit of big city culture at local prices, don’t miss out on all that’s going on at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. In addition to seeing some rockstar performances, they also offer a range of arts classes that you can take and exhibitions to enjoy. There’s even a chance you could end up seeing your own artwork or that of your peers there on display!

So don’t let the winter weather get you down. There are plenty of things to do near Southport on Cape Cod this winter to keep you and your friends laughing and full of fun. Start making your plans now!
